At Alumni Day 2026, numerous former students returned to their Alma Mater Viridis. Together with family and friends, they enjoyed a varied day at BOKU, reconnected with former fellow students and reminisced about their time at university.
The morning programme featured a range of guided tours offering fascinating insights into BOKU and its surroundings. Highlights included the Hydraulic Engineering Laboratory, the trees and woody plants in Türkenschanzpark, and BOKU’s historic buildings.
The day was accompanied by music from the BOKUstrings. During the concert intermission, Rector Eva Schulev-Steindl officially opened Alumni Day. At the same time, our Managing Director Dr Ewald Pertlik was given a farewell. A group photo captured these special moments.
In the afternoon, visitors enjoyed a diverse programme of talks. Alongside a welcome message from international alumni, Prof. Marie-Theres Hauser’s revival lecture, “The ABC of Floral Architecture”, brought back memories of university days. Contributions from BOKU4you, BOKUacademy and on Citizen Science also highlighted the diversity and continued relevance of BOKU.
A particular highlight was the class reunions of graduates who enrolled in 1966, 1976, 1986, 1996 and 2006. The reunions provided an opportunity to share memories and rekindle long-standing friendships.
Following a musical opening by the hunting horn ensemble, former Rector Martin Gerzabek welcomed the participants. An evening buffet, wine and BOKU beer provided plenty of time for personal conversations and a relaxed get-together.
The evening came to a lively close with the Alumni Disco. Regardless of their year of enrolment, alumni celebrated, danced and raised a glass to their connection with BOKU.
Alumni Day 2026 once again demonstrated what connects the BOKU community beyond university studies: shared memories, long-standing friendships, scientific curiosity and a lasting connection to Alma Mater Viridis.
