New Path Bio unlocks the potential of precision fermentation by engineering microbial systems

to produce valuable food ingredients without animals, plants, starch, or most agricultural inputs.

Through synthetic biology and advanced bioprocessing technologies, we are redefining

sustainable food production.

We are seeking a motivated and curious master’s student who is interested in microbial strain

engineering and the development of innovative biotechnology production platforms.

In this project, you will contribute to the development and optimization of microbial production

strains for the efficient production of valuable proteins and other food ingredients. The project

focuses on applying strain engineering strategies to improve protein expression, production

yields, and overall strain performance. Through experimental characterization and optimization

of microbial production systems, you will help advance our fermentation-based production

platform and contribute to the development of more efficient and sustainable bioprocesses.

The project will be funded by the FFG FEMtech initiative supporting female students in research,

technology and innovation.

What you will learn:

• Practical experience in microbial strain engineering and optimization of protein

production systems

• Application of molecular biology and genetic engineering techniques

• Cultivation and characterization of microbial production strains in different laboratory-

scale formats

• Experimental approaches to improve protein expression, production yields, and strain

performance

• Experimental design, data analysis, and evaluation of microbial production processes

Requirements to apply:

• Female student enrolled in a Master program (e.g. Biotechnology)

• Familiarity with aseptic techniques and microbial cultivation

• Basic knowledge of molecular biology and genetic engineering techniques

• Careful and structured way of working, strong attention to detail

• Ability to perform calculations for concentrations, dilutions, and experimental setups

• Good documentation and communication skills

• Completed most of the curriculum
