About the content: Christina Gruber PhD, Development Scientist and Coordinator at BIOMIN, is giving insights into the rumen simulation technique (RUSITEC). This is a well-established semi-continuous in vitromodel to investigate rumen microbial processes in a standardized environment. With the RUSITEC, we can simulate ruminal fermentation processes and even gastrointestinal diseases, such as rumen acidosis, without impairing the health and welfare of animals. The presentation demonstrates the simulation of subacute ruminal acidosis (SARA) in the RUSITEC and how this model can be used to examine the effects of feed additives and acidosis prevention strategies.
