Responsibilities
- As an agricultural scientist with a sound engineering background and a focus on plant phenotyping, you will be responsible for the implementation of research infrastructure as well as for the assistance in the realization of research projects
- Support for scientists in the project application phase to link research questions with the possibilities of the existing infrastructure
- Project management: Leading and managing projects, including experimental planning, execution and post-experiment follow-up (e.g. recording and analysing data, evaluating results and reporting)
- Guidance and training of scientists and students in the use of different platforms and devices for plant phenotyping including training initiatives
- Responsibility for the operation and maintenance of technical facilities and equipment in the field of plant phenotyping including modern sensors and imaging systems
- Technical leadership and responsibility for the technical staff assigned to the Plant Phenotyping department
- Close collaboration with interdisciplinary research teams
- Planning and implementation of courses and workshops/trainings within the university or in external courses
- Administrative tasks related to the phenotyping infrastructure
- Writing reports and supporting the acquisition of third-party funding for the research infrastructure
- Active further development of the existing infrastructure as part of the BOKU Research Farm strategy and public relations work
Required skills and qualifications
- Doctoral degree/PhD in Agricultural Sciences or related
- Diploma degree in Agricultural Sciences or other equivalent university degree
- Very good command of English and German, fluent in written and spoken language
- Sound knowledge in the field of image processing and sensor technology as well as in dealing with database systems and programming languages (e.g. Python, R)
- Expertise and experience in managing and analysing large scientific data sets
- Expertise and experience in plant phenotyping, ideally with knowledge in the use and maintenance of corresponding technical infrastructures
Desirable skills and qualifications
- Knowledge in the field of plant physiology and the use of eco-physiological measuring instruments
- Ability to work independently
- Service-orientation, strong teamwork skills and a willingness to collaborate across disciplines
- Analytical thinking, accuracy
- Proactive way of working and a high degree of personal responsibility
- High service and solution orientation
- Ability to work in a team and strong communication skills
- Driving license B, BE, F
