The challenges of the 21st century – climate crises, energy transition, circular economy, loss of biodiversity and social inequality – ask for co-creatively designed integrated solutions to develop a future proof built environment.
As an urbanist, I follow a living systems perspective in my research and teaching, overcoming the dominant dichotomic – human vs. nature, city vs. countryside – thinking, which has led humanity to face multiple global crises simultaneously. I focus on the sustainable development of dispersed urban areas, where cities and landscapes blur. My studies at the BOKU nourished my systemic and regenerative approach to urban planning. As a University of Live Sciences, the BOKU is an excellent place to educate students to deal with these nested and dynamic relationships.
